From our By-laws: “The purpose of this Corporation shall be to further and promote the study of mineralogy by means of meetings, lectures, exhibitions and field trips; to stimulate interest in all phases of geology, mineralogy, gemology, paleontology and the lapidary arts, and to do any other act or thing incidental to or connected with any of the foregoing or in the advancement thereof, but not for the pecuniary profit or financial gain of its members, directors or officers.”
The purpose of our organization is to further and promote interest in all
phases of geology, mineralogy, gemology, paleontology, and the lapidary
arts. We hold open Workshops weekly – every Saturday 10am-2pm at the Garvies
Point Museum in Glen Cove. In addition to our weekly workshops, our members are invited to
mine our claim at
Diamond Acres,
a Herkimer Diamond mine in Fonda, NY, where we share share a “dig” site with 4 Long Island clubs.
It is accessible beginning early May. Take advantage of the opportunity and arrange a group visit! All plans must be cleared through NMC
President, Diane Angus. (AFMS Code of Ethics describes the protocol expected at dig sites.) Our yearly
trip to the East Coast Gem and Mineral Show in West Springfield,
Massachussets is always a favorite event. View our Brochure here
to see all we have to offer. Feel free to contact us
to arrange a visit!
Bringing together people with similar interests, at NMC, our members enjoy cabochon making, faceting, chain making, wire wrapping, silver work, beading, soldering, casting, wax carving, enameling, metal clay and other techniques.
Our motto is: "Each one, teach one"
If you have knowledge you'd like to share or are curious and want to learn, we invite you to participate in our activities, even suggest new activities, and experience the rewards of rockhounding and the lapidary arts. If you'd like to see what we're all about, please plan a visit. We're at the Garvies Point Museum every Saturday 10am-2pm. Call or email us if you would like to visit.
